Editorial policy

How these pages are written, who is responsible for them, what qualifies as a source, and how often each cluster is re-checked.

Who writes and who is responsible

CoverChecked is written and edited by M. Maciel, who is accountable for everything published on it. Editorial decisions, corrections and takedown requests are handled directly by the author and publisher of this site.

How a page gets attributed

Every article carries the author's byline and a reviewed-on date. Pages that no longer meet the standards below are corrected rather than left standing: a corrected page shows its new date, and a change that alters the substance of an answer is noted at the end of that page.

How content is produced and checked

Every money page goes through the same steps before it goes live, and no page skips them:

  • Scope. One page answers one question. If two pages start competing for the same query, they are merged.
  • Sourcing. Figures must trace to a named source — a regulator, a provider term sheet, or a published actuarial or industry document — and the source is cited with the date it was consulted.
  • Arithmetic. Any number the reader could recompute is shown with its working, so the method can be checked rather than trusted.
  • Locality and timing check. Where an answer changes by state or by date, the page says so beside the figure instead of burying it in a footnote.
  • Review. Each page carries a reviewed-on date. Pages that are past their review window come down or get re-checked before they stay up.

Editorial independence

Advertisers and commercial partners have no input into what we publish, and never see a page before it goes live. Where a page earns money through advertising or a commercial arrangement, that is disclosed on the page itself, in language a reader can find without hunting for it.

Advertising on this site

Ads are labelled, kept out of data tables, out of calculator results, and out of the next-step links at the foot of an article. Display advertising is sold through a third-party ad network; the network's own policies govern what may appear in an ad slot, and readers who see an ad that looks wrong to them can report it through the contact address below (contact@coverchecked.com).

Corrections

If a page is wrong, it gets fixed rather than quietly edited. A corrected page shows its new reviewed-on date, and a change that alters the substance of an answer is noted in one line at the end of that page. Send corrections to contact@coverchecked.com.

What this site is not

CoverChecked is not an insurer, a broker, a bank or a lender, and it does not sell policies or issue credit. Nothing here is individual financial, tax or legal advice. Where a decision has real consequences, confirm the details with the provider and with a licensed professional in your state.

Privacy and data

What we collect, why, and how to have it removed is set out on the privacy page. Advertising is served by a third-party network, which may set its own cookies; the privacy page explains how to opt out.
